Mi Barrio

Hello everyone! I applogize for not writing for a little while, I finally moved into my new home and we dont currently have access to internet. So here´s what you´ve missed -
My new roomate´s name is Miriam (picture coming soon). She is a 35 year old teacher at the YMCA and is an amazing roomate. She is very nice and has made me feel right at home. The first night I was here, she was in the process of moving so we stayed in her old house and on Sunday we moved to our new home which is not only within walking distance from where I will be working, but it is also within walking distance from the Townsley´s church (thank God for keeping me safe under His care).
Our neighborhood is so much fun! Each night a gang of young girls call me out to join them on our stoop to chat, sing songs and brush my hair. We usually lose power right after sunset so it is nice to have them there to entertain.
Today was the first time I saw the touristy part of the DR. My friends invited me to join them on their Leaders Club excursion to la Isla Saona. It was by far the most beautiful beach I have ever been to and pretty empty since you have to take a boat to get there. I had such a great time with my new friends and am so glad I have such a wonderful group of people who are excited to share their culture with me.
